Windows Update - 'Windows' section grayed out

On a new Windows Server 2003 install the 'Windows' section under 'Pick
updates to install' when running Windows Update does not refresh. It remains
grayed out and does not display (0) or another number indicating how many
updates are available or not available for that section. I have tried
turning off 'firewall' in connection properties and also tried deleting the
Windows Update subdirectory in Programs which was just recreated the next
time it ran. I cleared the temp directories. The system is 'activated'. Is
there a way to fix this problem?

Searching google.com there is some information that indicates Microsoft may
have disabled Windows Update for 'pirated' product keys. This install is a
'RC2' 360-day trial that came with Office 2003 Beta. Does anyone know if
Microsoft has disabled update for this copy of server 2003 - trial? I used
the key printed right on the software packet.

Hi,

That's the problem. You can't use RC 2 anymore and couldn't as of April
24th this year. Grab a copy of the final product's trial from this site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/evaluation/trial/evalkit.mspx
It's a 180 day trial

Only reply by newsgroup. If I see an email I didn't ask for, it will be
deleted without reading.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll just install the rest of the Beta Office
servers (Exchange, SharePoint, etc.) on a regular 2003 install. That will
just mean activating it again if I end up reinstalling it after all the
testing.

Please suggest that instead of just graying out the Windows line on the
update page that some sort of indication display that the installation is
not updatable.
