Windows Update will not run and IE will not run, strange noises coming from speakers

Automatic Windows Update won't run and when trying to run manually it will not download. I noticed strange noises coming from speakers, and Norton hasn't picked up on any viruses. I'm not happy with XP and want to change back to ME but I'm not sure how to do that on my own?

Possibly you have spooks in your PC. Ok maybe I'm just kidding
- Can you get to any web page? If not, then you may have a variety of different problem
- If you can get to the web, download and install WinXP sp1a ful

Hi there
I can't get into IE but I downloaded Netscape to retrieve my hotmail messages. When I get onto the Windows Update site, I can't download update because browser does not support Active X Controls. I have a preinstalled Windows XP from IBM and I should be able to do a system recovery by pressing F11 when turning on puter...but it won't work...grrrrr lol
