Windows Update Not Working after SP3 Blue-screen

GettingByOk

Hello,

In June I tried to install SP3 onto my Dell XPS 410 RAID-0 machine. It had
installed fine on an older Dell w/ one hard drive. But on my RAID-0 machine
it blue-screened in both Normal and Safe startup modes. I had to do a Repair
Install of WindowsXP and take it back down to SP2 + IE7 (IE6 would not work
at all after the re-install).

Anyway, about a month after that I started doing Windows Updates. 1-2 wks
ago it said I had 98 patches to install but it wouldn't install any of them.
It now says every time I start the box that I have updates ready but it will
not install them.

Any ideas what's going on?

Thanks,
Robert

Simple enough, download windows installer v4.5,install,then go to run, type:
msiexec /unregister Return to run, type:msiexec /regserver Return to run,
type:services.msc In msc,scroll to installer,double click,start
service,set to
auto,from manual start,exit msc
Also, before SP2 or SP3,set to have CHKDSK C: Run on restart before you
restart after either installation,XP will usually always run if in place...

Mick, Andrew,

Thank you both very much.

Mick, that article seemed to clarify things somewhat (hopefully
completely.....)

Andrew, how do you do the following from your note:

"Also, before SP2 or SP3,set to have CHKDSK C: Run on restart before you
restart after either installation,XP will usually always run if in place..."

Thanks,
Robert
