Windows Update error 80070103

B

Bill Glidden

HP 530 Notebook PC, cannot install driver update for inbuilt Intel
PRO/Wireless 3945ABG adaptor, either through Windows Update or via HP
SP38888. Windows Update gives a code while direct update just says driver
installation was not successful.
This is an update that is flagged as necessary. The wireless adaptor is not
functioning properly.

Any ideas, anyone?

Hi Jerry,

Yes that is SP38888. Doesn't install. Thanks anyway..

Have you tried getting the driver direct from the Manufacturer's site?

Did you follow these instructions exactly as they are written?

1. Download the SoftPaq .EXE file to a directory
on your hard drive.

2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the
on-screen instructions.

NOTE: After the files are unpacked, the Setup program
runs automatically. If the setup program (isetup.exe)
needs to be run manually, look for it in the
download directory.

Saving to disk takes longer than to directly download and install. You could
try installing in Safe Mode. Might be something there.

The note suggests installation is not always straightforward.

You said this earlier "The wireless adaptor is not functioning properly." In
what way is it malfunctioning?

Hope this helps

Gerry,

I followed these instructions explicitly.

The Wireless adaptor may be faulty. It cannot connect to any wireless
networks any more. I shows 100% signal strength, but when I try to connect
I get an error indicating low signal-strength. I know the problem is with
this PC because a PC sitting next to this one can connect with no problem.

Cheers,
Bill

Is the computer in or out of warranty?

Have you tried a wired connection? Wired connections are better than
wireless except they are not always convenient. What is your router?

Gerry,

In warranty - I have contacted HP Support. I am using a Netgear WAP, but
this PC will not connect to any other wireless point either.

Maybe a hardware fault would cause the driver update to fail?

Cheers,
Bill
