Windows Setup hangs

I'm using Windows XP pro. Due to a faulty Power Supply, I wasted my last
MB,and other peripherals. I've replaced all and am trying to install the OS.
At the Windows Setup screen, it goes thru the F6 and F2 business, then
hangs. Power must be turned off to clear it. I've moved memory modules
around in various configurations will the same result. When I eliminated one
bank of memory I get the following

"An unexpected error (0) occurred at line 1768 in
d:\xpsp1\base\boot\setup\arcdisp.c."
Press any Key

At that point it simply goes into a loop and same process and error message
comes up.

What is the problem and how can I overcome it. Am I up against a hardware
problem or a corrupted Windows XP disk? Any help is appreciated.

Hi Gunnerb (Arsenal Fan),
Take a deep breath and clear your mind, when you try the new installation
did you remove all the Harwares connected to the computer all but not the
Mouse and the Keyboard.
Try to Wipe the CD clean with smooth clean not rough cloth and put your CD
in then Reboot and select Setup.
Delete all partitions and Create new one to suite your needs.
Set active Partition which always C:\ derive letter
then Reformate the Partitions and complete the setup steps by copying the
files and entering the product key and loading the Hardware drivers on your
system.
Hope this helps.

P.S Be sure that you did not fry the Memory Card by any means, take a trip
to PC shop and if there is anice person ask him how you can test the memory
if no help buy the same standard or make and try to eliminate the ESD from
your Body by touching or putting your Hands on the Case for about 30 sec then
you can Handel the Card from the edge.
