I had to re install windows & my hard drive & am not going to put my auto
updates back on, it caused problems so bad dad had to call dell & it took a
few phone calls & they had me re install windows again [:-(>] & even restore
[before we called dell did not get rid of the problem, I still had windows
security on there] did not work. I even could not get my Norton anti-virus
working right either.

So SP2 stinks.

If one has to rely on dell to clear up thier pathetic problems, maybe you
should
try reading basic windows 101 for dummies.

ha ha, yeah.

LOL - now that's funny. First you buy a junk dell computer, let me guess
it's a $399 special. Then you call dell and since their tech support stinks
and the "tech" couldn't help you he did the standard bail out routine and
told you to re-format and you listened to him. You also use nortons and
failed to update it properly before or after installing sp2. And you blame
SP2 for your probs.
If you prepare your computer correctly sp2 will install fine.
Did you remove all the viruses and spyware that you have before you
installed sp2?
You never did say, what was the original problem you had with sp2? All you
talk about is nortons which has nothing to do with sp2.
Last, if you don't want to do proper maintenance on your computer and keep
it updated and patched, either manually or automatically, then please do us
all a favor and turn it off and pull the plug until you can learn to keep
your computer updated.

No, really.. you should learn how to use your computer, aside from your car it
is the single most valuable asset you will ever own (and please nobody jump in
here and say that's your body, grin).. You will use your computer more than
anything else you buy, again aside from your car..

So don't you think, instead of coming on and moaning about how bad your life has
become, you instead become the family tech guy instead?

Who told him he should do all of these things? Why is Dell junk? What
isn't junk to you? I am tired of arrogant stupidity.

Do you know as much about the internal components of your car as you do
about your computer? If not, why not?

What other kind of stupidity is there?

Shameless stupidity, among others.

The blame is on Dell, not SP2. I have yet to see a new Dell out of the
box without file system errors due to their factory imaging of the hard
drives. The very first thing to do with ANY new PC with a factory
pre-install of the OS is to run CHKDSK /F. I've learned that the hard way.

We all have to find some things out for ourselves and there are plenty
of good resources, even free, like this and others. If it's important
enough to a person that their computer works then it's important enough
for them to do a little learning.
Why is Dell junk?

Because they are mass-produced, mass marketed, marginal hardware with
lousey imaged pre-installations of the OS that are always full of problems.
What
isn't junk to you?

Quality hardware and proper installations of OS and software, which Dell
is not.
I am tired of arrogant stupidity.

Phil might not be the most polite person here sometimes, but I wouldn't
call him stupid. People post here all the time complaining and blaming
and then demanding help, which seems more like arrogant stupidity to me.

Steve & others:

It is just that these Users newsgroups are full of people in general who are
looking for someone to be nasty too. All you got to do is ignore them or
block who sends them on your e-mail program, one of these days they will
need help & no one will help them because they have made others mad @ them.
I personally know of a few alt. & re. newsgroups that have treated me nasty
so I just got out of them when I got my new computer [people will be people
I guess].

Bob

So can I do it now & if so how? I could do it easy on my other computer but
cannot find it on here, thanks.

Ludicrous. We have 50 new Dell Optiplex and none have this issue. None.

Ludicrous. We have 50 new Dell Optiplex and none have this issue. None.

It's not ludicrous at all, rather direct personal experience. We
typically see around a 10% hardware failure rate (HDD, RAM, system board
failures) for new Dells and no longer buy from them for this very
reason. Every single new Dell that I have seen (in the hundreds) has had
FS errors right out of the box, many serious enough to cause system
restarts and BSODs. It is obvious that Dell does not test machines
before shipment and has terrible QA, if they have any at all. Their tech
support is just as bad. The last time we had to have a Dell contracted
service tech do on-site service it took four phone calls and a week for
the technician to show up. Express on-site service my eye.

Believe what you want, I have numbers to prove my point.
