Service Pack 2 for Windows XP Home

I formatted my dell and installed windows XP (came with my system), installed
Norton Systemworks along with spybot and ad-aware. Did some windows update
about 80 or so then the problem began. I went back into window update to
make sure I got all of them and there was one more Windows XP Service Pack 2.
It started installing then all of a sudden I get a popup from Service Pack 2
setup that said Access is denied then I said ok. Another popup box that said
service pack 2 installations did not complete. Select ok to undo the changes
that have been made. Selected ok and it did its thing. Then another popup
box saying service pack 2 installations did not complete. Windows XP has
been partially updated and may not work properly. And it was right. I
rebooted then got a blue screen that said STOP 00000 (not sure how many
zeros) the session manager initialization system process terminated
unexpectedly with a status of 000 (don’t know how many zeros). The system has
been shutdown. The computer now keeps rolling from the blue screen to the
windows logo, the dell screen, blue screen etc. The desktop never loads.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Try to deinstall apps which you installed - first install device drivers if
any needed you can check it Control Panel -> Performance and Maintance ->
System -> Hardware -> Device manager (check if any important device hasn't
detected or has installed incorrectly). If you have an firewall app install
it and next connect to the internet and Windows Update and download updates
for your system. If everything will installed correctly install 3rd party
apps.

Hi,

and in Safe Mode ? Beside you said that you've installed Windows - so I
suppose that it's clear ... almost ;-) if in Safe Mode environment won't
load too, as a last resort you can install it again. You'll waste about
30-40 minutes but will sure that 3rd party apps don't block an operations
during OS updating.

I formatted my dell and installed windows XP (came with my system),

What problem(s) were you trying to resolve by formatting and reinstalling
Windows?

Did you enable the Windows Firewall or a third-party firewall before going
online for the first time after formatting/reinstalling?

Did you uninstall the preinstalled-at-the-factory anti-virus/internet
security application before installing NSW?

Were NAV, Spybot Tea Timer & SDHelper and/or Ad-Watch (if you're running
Ad-aware Pro) running/enabled when you attempted to install SP2?

Hi,

Ad-aware, spybot, and Norton Systemworks - all of them have real-time
monitors prevents some operations. I don't tell that Systemworks is bad app
but very often it can do more damages then repairs. Besides on this stage
it's more important to protect system by installing essential updates
otherwise is very probable that in short time you will figth with Windows
again - evil dont sleep ;-)
And SP2 it's definitely essential update - it's not only new firewall and
some gadgets but many many patches to system.

Service Pack 2 can be in Add/Remove Programs but not necessarily - it
depends if you chose deinstallation option when you installed :) Generally
you said that installation did not complete - so it shouldn't be there.

And another thing - if with your computer there was an additional CD to your
motherboard you should install that drivers in spite of Windows has already
installed some.

You said that you got blue screen with an STOP error - if you pass it with
all details perhaps it will be easier to determine what exactly causes it.

Only Ad-aware Pro's Ad-Watch provides real time protection.

Spybot's Tea Timer provides real time protection, but it's not enabled by
default IIRC.
