norton system works 2003---windows xp service pack 2?

I have downloaded & installed service pack 2". Already installed is
Norton Systemworks 2003 which contains Norton Anti Virus.

Unfortunately, Windows XP Security Center gives a RED message saying
that
Norton Anti Virus is not recognized.

I went to Symantec's website which says they have a WMI Patch that can
be
downloaded for Norton System Works 2004, but nothing about earlier
versions of Norton System Works.

Does anyone know if there is available a WMI for Norton System Works
2003?

From what I have read, they will not be updating older than 2004. No big
deal. I have Norton set to automatically update and I know its status all
the time. I really don't need the Security panel to watch it for me.

Aaron,

This is a NG that focuses attention on Windows XP. Your
question concerns NSW 2003 and should be directed to
Symantec.

Go to www.symantec.com and navigate to support and
newsgroup links. You can post your question there.

The WMI patch for 2004 works also for 2003, I'm using it. And,
truthfully, it's not a critical matter anyway, all that happens is that
the security center can't determine the status of Norton (and that's
what it tells you). But the progams themselves work ok.

It's all between your ears, kiddo. :)

Dear Mr. Logical: yes, my question DOES concern Norton System Works,
but it ALSO concerns its interfacing with Service Pack 2. If this NG
concerned itself ONLY with XP ALONE, and not application
compatibility with XP, there amound of posts would be decimated by 80
%. Does this sound "logical"?

I don't believe they are releasing that patch for NAV 2003. NAV is still working just
that the Security Center doesn't recognise it.

You know, I'm am annoyed about this issue. I bought my new PC in January of
this year and it came installed with Norton 2003 (90 day trial). I was
pleased with the product, so in April I signed up for a year's subscription.
Subsequently, they come out with ver 2004 (I know, progress). But now they
say they aren't going to support versions previous to 2004 for SP2? What's
wrong with this picture?

Yes, I know I can continue to use my system as before. But the point is:
why should I have to! I paid money for a subscription and that means I'm an
active customer. They need to fix this! The program isn't a year old!

I'm very disappointed with Symantec. They deserve to treat their customers
better. The only way to get their attention is to hit them on their bottom
line. Next time I purchase a product, it won't be Symantec: their
reputation for support precedes them.

I understand your frustration with the issue. Once you get over it a bit, you
can usually find upgrades to 2004 very cheap. Norton SystemWorks has double
rebates to 2003 owners - one regular for-everybody rebate, and a previous
version rebate - should cost about $15 after all rebates - SystemWorks 2004
has a password manager - absolutely the greatest thing I use. Worth the money
all by itself. And if you only have the Norton anti-virus 2003 and not the
SystemWorks 2003, there are still double rebates, and in the end you should
probably only pay about $10, and your year starts over. I think I have even
seen it priced so it costs you nothing after rebates for anti-virus 2004 from
an earlier version. Just keep looking for sales.
