Windows Security Info Request in Windows Mail ? ? ?

I just tried to open my Window Mail and got a message window that said:

Windows Security
Please verify that both the user name and password are correct for your mail
server.

It then wants you to type your username and password into two blocks. It
then has a check block that says "Remember My Credentials". Then OK or
Cancel.

This is the first time I have seen this when I open Windows Mail. Is this
something new or is this some kind of virus/malware?

It indicates that Windows Mail is unable to retrieve your saved password.
You can test your password by logging in to webmail:
If that works, it proves you have the correct username and password.
A likely reason for the username/password failing is account corruption.
One thing you should try as a possible quick fix is to delete that corrupted
mail account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate that account.

If that doesn't fix it, more drastic measures will have to be taken.
Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

If turning off the email scanning function does not resolve your problem,
consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to
suffering bad effects from overly aggressive antivirus programs.

Thanks Gary, I will give that a try. I've been using Norton AV 2009 for
several months now and this is the first time this issue has come up so I
thought that this was some kind of malware trying to get my username and
password.
