Windows mail......asks for username and password 10 times or more

Vattie

Hi.
Whenever i open Windows Mail, i get a bout a 30 pause, then a "windows
security" box pops up saying:

LOGON TO HOME
Please verify that both the username and password are correct for your mail
server.

There are then 2 boxes where i have to write my username and password, with
a box below which you can tick which says: Remember My Credentials.

Ok, so everytime this box pops up, and i fill in the details, and tick the
box, and then click "ok". Straight away it will pop up again, with all the
spaces empty, so away i go again and fill it all in and tick the box. THis
has to be done between 10-15 times before it will let me into Windows mail.

Any ideas how to get it sorted?

I have gone into "Tools"- "Accounts" and made sure that "Remember Password"
is ticked.

Its driving me mad, any solutions greatly recieved

Thx in advance

Often associated with an Antivirus application setup to scan email that
develops a tummy ache, are you running one?

I have the same problem, have tried similar, I wonder if it is a windows
update that is incompatible with my security software (AVG Free) Can anyone
else help? My e-mail server is Madasafish, their website wont let me in to my
mail either. What is yours? The problem may be at their end??

Hi Z Freebie
Nah my email server isnt madafish its orange, but yes my anti virus is the
same as yours, AVG free. I have just gone in and disabled the email scanner,
and although better its not right. It has asked me for my details a couple of
times, but it has also worked properly for a couple of times too, so
certainly an improvement but as yet, not 100 %.

Hi Vattie
Mine isn't letting me in at all. I have tried disabling AVG but no joy. I
will try again in the morning in case it is my Mail server. Cheers, let me
know if you find a solution. Z F

While AVG is good, its email scanner, like ALL email scanners, very
definitely is NOT. Uninstall AVG, then do a custom re-install leaving out
all email scanning. See if the problem persists. Email scanning is
redundant, it does nothing but create problems where none exist, and your
system is fully protected without it, provided you keep AVG's resident file
system scanner up to date.

Hi again Hal

I un-installed AVG as you said, and rebooted pc, but before i did a custom
re-install i tried windows mail, and it still asked me for my username and
password?? I cancelled that box and looked at the "error" and this is the
message....

Account: 'Home', Server: 'pop.orangehome.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: ' Disconnect because authentication to back server is too long',
Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

Does this mean anything to u??? (it may as well be arabic for me lol)

I will continue to do the custom re-install of avg.

Look forward to a response.

Vattie

P.S Bed time here in uk, and work in morning, so will be 20 hrs or so before
back online....thx for your help much appreciated.

Since that mail account may have been corrupted, delete the account,
restart Windows Mail, then recreate the account.

However, based on that error message, it sounds to me like this is a
temporary server problem. Try again later.

Some email servers require that you enter your username with no spaces and
no CAPITAL LETTERS. Some require that you follow it with the part of
your email address that starts with @, and some require that you don't.
Many require that you be careful about which letters of your password
are CAPITAL and which are lowercase. Many give rather vague error
messages if they find anything wrong with your username and/or password.
You may have to experiment to find which versions it will accept.

Also, if you told Windows Mail to save your password, it will probably
forget if any attempt to use it to connect to the email server fails. Also,
there's a quirk in Windows Mail that often makes it forget the password
if you tell it to remember the password, and in the same session, tell it
what password to remember. To correct this, click on Tools in your
main Windows Mail window, then Accounts, then your email account,
then Properties, then Servers. If there is no checkmark in the box
before Remember password, click on this box, then OK, then Close,
then start the procedure again. If there is a checkmark there, leave it
alone so the following steps will work. If there is any problem in the
username, click at the end of the problem, backspace over it, then type
the correction. Assume there's a problem with the password; so click
at the end of the dots for the password, backspace over them, then
type the correct password. Click Apply, then OK, then Close.

Hi, I am having the same problem. MY ISP and email provider is Madasafish
also. Maybe they do have a problem. I will raise the issue and seewhat
happens. They have had a problem sending emails to Hotmail.

Yes, as I responded yesterday, the error message makes me think
that the mail server is broken. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

If you are sure you have the correct username and password,
then the problem may be that the account is corrupted, which is
usually caused by running a non-compatible antivirus. Which
antivirus are you running?
Try this quick (temporary) fix: delete that account, restart Windows
Mail, then recreate the account. Did that make an improvement?

Also, Comcast has started requiring the following change for some of its
users, without being good about telling them in advance:

Although these instructions were written for Outlook Express, they
should also work under Windows Mail if you avoid the One Click
Fix. They don't seem to have written the port number change into
their Windows Mail instructions yet.

My ISP Madasafish refreshed the webmail component their end, no dea what this
is but it seems to have done the trick, I can now open Windows live send and
receive.
