Windows security pop up

Suddenty, when my husband switches to his mail account, he gets a windows
security pop up screen that says LOGON TO POP.WEST.COX.NET. "Please verify
that both the username and password are correct for your mail server. " A
check box is underneath that says "remember my credentials". If he just hits
enter, it goes away, and he can check his mail, but it is annoying. Any
ideas on how to get rid of this? It does not do this when I go to my mail
account. Thanks!

Are you and he on separate computers? If not, are you using separate
Windows user logins? Which antivirus is he using?

We are on the same computer. We are set up as two different users in Vista.
We use the AVG antivirus. Thanks!

As a test, uninstall AVG antivirus, reboot, and try his email again.
If no improvement, delete that account, restart Windows Mail, then
recreate that account.

If you decide to reinstall AVG, be sure to use the custom install option
where you are given a choice to forego installation of the email scanning
module. Email scanning is anathema to Windows Mail.

Thanks very much for your assistance. I will get someone more computer savvy
than me to try this as a fix!

Gary,

I am using multiple anti-viruses, Spybot, AVG, and Windows Defender. Are any
of these programs the cause for this weird security message? Do you know if
there is a way you can disable the e-mail virus protection? It is very
interesting why this message suddenly came up when I open Windows Mail.

Thanks,
Kyle Parker

Uninstall AVG and do a custom re-install it without the email scanning
module.

Only one of those is an anti-virus (AVG).

What weird security message?

Email scanning can be turned off in AVG, but many people find it easier to
uninstall it and then do a custom install without the email scanning.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no protection not provided by the regular
resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.
