Windows mail has stopped sending and recieving. The connection times out but
the pop and smtp settings are correct. I can connect on my notebook fine but
on the desktop I get this error msg:

Account: 'pop.west.cox.net ', Server: 'pop.west.cox.net', Protocol: POP3,
Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19

Even my Outlook Express doen't work anymore.

I can get my verizon email just fine through their web site. I have chged
nothing about my Windows Mail account setup. Starting yesterday, if I try to
access my email through Windows Mail, it repeatedly prompts me to "Login to
incoming.verizon.net". I type in my username and pwd (the same ones that get
me my email through their web site) and no dice. After I cancel, I can go
see the error:

" Account: 'incoming.verizon.net', Server: 'incoming.verizon.net', Protocol:
POP3, Server Response: '-ERR invalid command', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC91"

I'm running 32bit Vista Home Premium SP1.

Any thoughts are appreciated! Currently downloading and installing the
latest updates.

That symptom is usually caused by interference from an antivirus
program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus should be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

Email scanning in any antivirus should be disabled, for reasons
explained here:

If no improvement after disabling email scanning, consider upgrading
to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects
from overly intrusive antivirus programs:

The two error messages appear to be identical.

I have already checked the antivirus, which is Trends, I have also tried
Windows Live Mail, and Outlook 7 It just started happening 2 months ago and I
can log in on my notebook with no problem.

Most common thought for something like this is what Anti Virus program are
you using? Windows Mail is extremely sensitive to rogue email scanners and
it sounds like you may have one.

If you're running Trend's email scanner, it is likely the cause of the
problem. Windows Mail is extremely sensitive to rogue email scanners, as
Gary points out.

What do you mean by "I've checked the antivirus"?

Trend Micro antivirus is among the top three troublemakers for Windows Mail.
First, go into its settings and disable any interaction with email, then try
Windows Mail again. If no improvement, do a trial uninstall of the antivirus.

Another option (instead of uninstalling Trend Micro) is to upgrade to
Windows Live Mail, which is more resistant to the adverse effects of
overly intrusive antivirus products: http://download.live.com/wlmail

In any case you must disable any antivirus email scanning, for the reason
explained here:
