windows root

when powering up i get a message saying cannot start
windows because the <windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe.
can not find or has been corrupted. can anyone tell me
how to get this and get it back in the computer.
 
using the xp cd just boot the system with that disk and it
will ask you whether to do a reinstall or repair choose
repair
