It would help if you told us something about the recent history
of this machine.

This is a Notebook laptop model number D400E. Before the crash I was trying
to get this computer to work wireless. the computer has a little switch on
the front that looks like it's supposed to enable wireless reception but it
still did not pick up my signal. I then tried plugging in the card that came
with my router and that did not work either. (This is a computer I got from
my company and them being a bank, I figured they were paranoid and somehow
disabled the wireless capabilities of this machine) then one day I tried to
start up the computer and I got this message.

I do not have the wireless routercard plugged in nor do I have a floopy or
CD in the drive..? I also do not have recovery disk or the original operating
system software since this is a work computer...

Thanks!

Your chances of fixing anything without a recovery disk
or a WinXP installation disk are very, very slim. Without
these disks your best bet is to take the machine to a qualified
computer repair shop.

Well, after quite a bit of digging in my closet I found hat looks like the
original software. It says it's Windows XP home Edition OEM software. Must be
it eh?

As you can probably tell already I am not exactly a computer genius. How do
I go about re-installing this software from this point?

thanks again for your help!

Your best bet is to start with a clean slate and allow the disk
to be formatted. This means that you will lose all your data
files. It also means that you have to re-install all your applications
such as Microsoft Office.

Installation of Windows is easy: Insert the WinXP CD into
the disk drive, then boot the machine from this CD and follow
the prompts. Allow the disk to be formatted when prompted.
Note that you will need the 25-character Windows XP product
code.

If your machine ignores the CD when booting then you must
instruct its BIOS to use the CD drive as the primary boot
device. Watch the writing on the screen during the early
boot-up phase. It probably tells you which key to press to
get into the BIOS setup screen. On some machines it tells
you which key to press to select the boot device.
