I run XP Professional with SP2. I am the administrator.
HP Support tell me to access the Security tab of WINDOWS or
WINDOWS\system32 properties, but there is no such tab.

Hi, it's possible that your HD file system is running Fat32 instead od NTFS.
The way to check is to 'right click' your mouse arrow over the correct root
drive where XP is installed. If it says Fat32 then you need to convert the
drive through the command prompt as follows "
To convert a volume to NTFS from the command prompt

1.. Open the Command Prompt window.
2.. In the command prompt window, type
convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs

For example, typing convert D: /fs:ntfs would format drive D: with the
ntfs format.

Notes

a.. To open a command prompt, click Start, point to All Programs, point to
Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
b.. You can convert FAT or FAT32 volumes to NTFS with this command."

Go to Control Panel and double click on Folder Options.
Click on the View tab.
In the Advanced Settings box, scroll down to the bottom and
remove the check mark from the box next to "Use simple file
sharing (Recommended)".
Go back and see if the Security tab is now displayed.
Note: Be very careful what changes you make to files and
folders located within the Windows or System32 folders.
Changing NTFS permissions can have unintended consequences.
