c:\windows\system32\shimgvw.dll"

Windows Picture & Fax Viewer does not run.

although i can open the photos with Microsoft Photo Editor

Try to run the following:
Click on Start, click on Run and type the following in the textbox:
REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL
and press the Enter key.
Note that there is a space between ...32 and SHI...
This will take a second to run and you should get a success message. If you
get an error message, tell us what the error is.

================================
Downloading a new copy of shimgvw.dll
and placing it in your System32 folder
might be worth a try. Also you'll need to
re-register it...go to...Start / Run and type:

"REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL"
(without the quotes)(Yes, there's
a space between 2 and S)

Click...OK.

A dialog box should report the following:

"DllRegisterServer in SHIMGVW.DLL succeeded"

download shimgvw.dll
http://tinyurl.com/6wmta

And...it might be worth a try to reinstall
WinXP SP2.

If you search google groups for the error:

"LoadLibrary "shimgvw.dll" failed"

You'll find that several users reported that
it solved the issue.
