Windows Picture and Fax viewer

Some how it seems I have lost Picture and fax viewer. It is still an option
as a default to view pictures, but it seems the program is gone. This is
very annoying because I can not see thumbnails of my pictures anymore, I
don't know what any pics are until I open them with like paint or internet
explorer.

Does anyone know how I can reload picture and fax viewer? I do not have
the Windows XP disc anymore, moved a few times and have misplaced it.

Any help would obviously be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Try this, maybe it will restore the option:

go to...Start / Run and type:

"REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL"
(without the quotes)(Yes, there's
a space between 2 and S)

Click...OK.

A dialog box should report the following:

"DllRegisterServer in SHIMGVW.DLL succeeded"

I can now see the thumbnails after trying that, Thanks. Only problem now is
when I click the picture, or try to open with picture and fax viewer, the
picture does not show up. There is only a line that says preview not
available.

Can you help me with this problem?

Thanks again.

I'll offer some ideas but am not sure what the
problem is. Does this occur with *all* images?
Can you open these images with your editing
software?

Have a look at the following article:

Format Is Not Supported" Error Messages

There is a registry patch at the link below
that *might* solve your problem.

I can only see the thumbnails now. When I click the thumbnails to open my
photos,It will not open in picture & fax viewer. Even if I right click and
open with picture and fax viewer, nothing is displayed.

I have tried what you sent me earlier, but hasn't given me too much to go
with. Just seems the program isn't there or something.

Thanks

Sorry, but that's the best I can offer. Did
you try creating a new user account?

Loaded PhotoImpact and it changed all my association (without asking) and
even when I reset them in Preferences, it didn't take. Used File type
associations to fix, didn't take, uninstalled PhotoImpact and used File type
associations to fix again and again it didn't take. Used your advice to:

Worked GREAT! Thanks!!!
