Windows Mail

When I click send and receive all I get an error message but nothing in the
box below. I had mcafee on the machine but have removed it as suggested in
an earlier thread on here. If I shut windows mail and then re-open it it
receives any mail messages okay but then will not work with the send receive
button, although the sending option works just fine.

For most versions of the McAfee antivirus program, just uninstalling it
often
fails to remove the parts of it that cause problems in Windows Mail. You
often then have to run this cleanup program:

<http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=107083&lc=4105&partner=McAfee&type=TS&ia=1>

You may even have to remove your email account under Windows Mail,
then restart Windows Mail and add the account again.

Also, check your list of installed programs for these programs:
Google Toolbar, Google Desktop, and SMS Desktop. If you find
any on these on the list, uninstall them, since they also cause problems
in Windows Mail.

If this cures your problem, you may want a replacement antivirus
program that doesn't cause such problems in Windows Mail.
Most versions of the Norton and McAfee antivirus programs and
a recent version of the Trend antivirus program are bad choices,
since they are the top three programs for causing problems in
Windows Mail. I recommend either avast! or AVG, either one
with a custom install where you tell it to leave out the parts that
scan email.

If you above doesn't cure your problem, tell us what if any
antispyware programs and antispam programs you have if any,
since some of those also cause problems in Windows Mail.

As a quick fix, try this:
Delete that mail account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate
that account.

Account corruption is often caused by running a non-compatible
antivirus. Which antivirus are you running?

The AVG email scanner works good. It doesnt interfere.

ANY mail scanner interferes. It's not so bad if you don't receive stuff it
removes and have a nose fast machine.
