Windows Mail

Please help. I am not computer savy and have a real problem with Windows
Mail. I got a new PC in Feb. and had Windows Vista Home Premium installed.
For a couple of months, things went well. No problem getting or sending
mail. Then, all of a sudden when I tried to retrieve mail, all I got was the
following error message
...
Your POP3 server has not responded in 60 seconds. Would you like to wait
another 60 seconds for it to respond? then it gives you buttons to Wait or
Stop. It does not matter which you choose. It still responds with another
error message..checking for new messages on incoming verzion.net. and repeats
message. Then an error box says...Some errors occured while processing the
requested tasks. Pelase review errors..acct.incoming.verizon.net,
server.incoming.verizon.net, Protocol. POP3, Port 110, server(SSL)
No.error#0x800CC19

This is all foreign to me. And, I am getting so miffed. I have never had
problems like this. Can someone help?

It could well be an antivirus issue.

Are you using Norton or McAfee by any chance?

This problem is often caused by interference from your
antivirus program. Windows Mail is not compatible with most
McAfee or Norton security programs. Those will need to be uninstalled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download and
install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

Since the non-compatible antivirus may have corrupted your
mail account, if the above action does not fix the problem,
create a new mail account with the same settings as the old one,
then delete the old account.

As far as I know, not either. But, the anti-virus software that was
installed was
Trend Micro Anti-Virus, plus anti-Spyware. Also, webroot Spy Sweeper.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

I will try this. The anit-virus software on here is Trend Micro Anti-Virus
plus anti-spyware. I will check the other programs to double check if either
Norton or McAfee are there and I might not know it.

Thanks for any help you can give. I really appreciate it. It is
frustrating when you are not really computer knowledgeable.

That is well over the top.

Look to see if you can disable email scanning with Trend Micro AV.

Personally I would get rid of it a use a tried and tested AV such as
Avast which is free and has a very good reputation on this group.

(Omit email scanning at install time.)

Whichever AV you use email scanning is superfluous.

As for Spy sweeper... that too is superfluous on a Vista system
as Windows Defender does a perfectly adequate job for free.

Also just a day or so ago someone with a similar problem as you
solved it by turning off Spy Sweepers email shield. Not being a user of it
I can't tell you how but it's in the options somewhere.
