windows mail vista home prem. error sending

Lisa A Litsch

I am getting a similar error to others when sending on windows mail
0x800cc19. I tried setting the SMTP to 587 and enabling server
authentification. It did not work. I am using verizon. I don't like using
the ISP version of mail and would really like to be able to send again.
Thanks.

Thanks Robert, but their website has not been helpful. I am set up
correctly. I have been using Vista home prem. for over a year with the
windows mail and at the beginning of March of this year is when this problem
started, out of the blue. No where on verizon's web site have I found any
useful information.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no protection not provided by the regular
resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.

I also seem to always get a different error #.

Your settings look fine. However, there should have been a sentence
or two at the start of the error message, such as "A timeout occurred
while communicating with the SMTP server." Without that information
I will make an educated guess and predict that you are running
non-compatible security software from McAfee or Norton.
As a test, uninstall that security software, reboot, then try Windows
Mail again.

I removed the software (Trend Micro Internet Security), re-booted, and still
get the send error. I am going to re-install the virus protection. I might
mention, also, I have been running windows mail for a year and then March 1
2008 it stopped sending.

Problems in Windows Mail caused by antivirus programs often take months
to show up.

A recent version of the Trend antivirus program (details not available) is
also known to cause problems in Windows Mail.

By "removed" I hope you mean you used the proper uninstall utility
instead of just deleting the program from the C:\Program Files
folder.

Your error message ("...unexpectedly terminated...") almost always
means interference from a third party security program.

If all else fails, try upgrading to Windows Live Mail:

Yes, I removed it by using the uninstall utility. Since getting Vista last
year, I now know more about computers than I really wanted to.

I could not find any evidence on Verizon's site that they support
port 587. A complicating factor is that they have four different
kinds of email service.

L

Lisa A Litsch

No it does not.

Does it work if before you change the port to 587 you go to the Servers tab
and check "My server requires authentication" under Outgoing Mail Server ?

OK. After a nightmare, I was able to install Windows Live Mail (which is
pretty cool, I might add).
I cannot send still. Error is below.
I can send from my MSN account in WLM, though. I'm at a loss.

Error:

inactivity.

If you want help with Windows Live Mail, you're likely to get it faster

I think the problem is with Verizon. Not 100% sure, but just an educated
guess. I can send with my MSN account; and with WLM I can drag emails from
the Verizon account to MSN to reply. Not the best solution, but it works for
now.
Thanks for your help.

Good to see you upgraded to WLM.

Whatever antivirus you are currently running, make sure it is not
configured to scan email.

On the off chance that the Verizon account is corrupt, delete it,
restart WLM, then recreate that account. Warning, in WLM if you
delete an account it also deletes the folders associated with that
account, so any email you want to keep should be moved to a
non-account 'storage' folder first.

New to Vista, recently bought a new computer with Vista and it's ok however
I have been trying to use Windows Mail and get the following error message:

Account: '(e-mail address removed)', Server: 'incoming.verizon.net',
Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19
"
I have been able to receive email from Verizon intermittently using windows
mail but can send email. I have turned the firewall off and I have Norton
Antivirus so I tried turning of the email incoming and outgoing filter.
Still have the same problem. This is driving me nuts. I am using Windows
Mail to read this group!!

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks
