Windows Mail / Outlook

Guest

Hello,

I am trying to copy the entire contents of my outlook express 97 to my new
computer (Vista)... I have Outlook 2003 and have managed to get the address
book saved ok, but can't get the folders / previously saved e-mails....

I opened windows mail, as I was told that I had to configure my outlook
express .dbx files with windows mail, but it made me put in all my settings
(name, servers...) and then proceeded to download my e-mails.... I didn't
want this to happen!!. I am quite happy to use Windows mail, but really need
to find a way of importing / setting up all my old folders.
I've tried import / export but nothing seems to work

Can anyone help?

many thanks

Nick

You have me confused! First, there is no Outlook Express 97; there is an
Office Outlook 97, but Outlook Express is version 3.x, 4.x, 5.x, or 6
(Windows Mail is Outlook Express 7 with a new name). Second, you mention
Outlook 2003, where is that in this picture? Third, you need to import the
..DBX files (if you're attempting to transfer Outlook Express data into
Windows Mail) and this page has instructions:

http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#oe2wm

So, what exactly are you attempting to do, transfer from Office Outlook to
Windows Mail, from Outlook Express to Windows Mail, or from Outlook to
Outlook Express and then to Windows Mail?

Install Outlook 2003 on the Vista computer.
Copy the .pst file over also. Start Outlook and open the .pst file.
Then you can open Windows Mail, and import.

But you may as well continue using Outlook, as it's probably better than WM.

I have Outlook Express on my desktop and Vista Windows Mail on my new
notebook. I was able to export my addresses from Outlook Express to
Windows mail, but the one group email list I have on Outlook Express
did not copy. Do you have any idea as to how I can accomplish this?
I would hate to have to enter the 65 addresses again if I even knew
how to make a group email list of Windows Mail!!! (How I hate that
program!!)
