Transfer e-mail

I am trying to transfer my old e-mail from my old machine on windows xp using
outlook to my new Vista computer using windows mail. I read on one Microsoft
site that I needed to transfer to Outlook Express and then convert it to
Windows Mail.

So I installed Outlook Express, imported all my files from Outlook, and now
I'm stuck. I can't get Windows Mail to import these files.

Any suggestions (they are currently dbx files (holding the various local
folders - inbox.dbx, sent items.dbx, etc.)

Select all the contents of the folder that they are in, on your hard drive,
rt click, properties and remove the 'read only' attribute. The folder must
contain a Folders.dbx file

copy all of the .dbx files to a folder on the Vista computer.
In WM, File - Import
when you go to select the folder containing the files, don't open it.
If you open it, the path will contain a duplicate folder.

That worked for some. It gives me a place to start. None of the files were
read only, so that wasn't the problem.

Thanks to everyone. Bits and pieces of all this were helpful. It doesn't seem
as if anything is ever exactly the same from one set up to the next. Using
all of this I fin bally did get everythinbg moved. Thanks again.

I hope everything I do with Vista isn't this difficult.
