windows mail not sending

G

I have just set up my windows mail, I did so for business reasons so that I
might keep my personal emails (I'm with yahoo) seperate from business. My
business emails come from the companies server address. I can receive emails
from these companies, and others, but am unable to send anything. I receive
this message..

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test1', Account:
'suppersdirect.com', Server: 'suppersdirect.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E....

I am an idiot so please be painfully simple in any help you can
give.....thanks!

The server name appears to be incorrect. You will have to check with
whoever provides it, to get the correct name and settings.

I have already done all of that, with both companies that I
represent.......what else?

It is nothing whatever to do with any companies that you represent!

You need to use the SMTP server of the company that you pay for internet
access.

Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Advanced.
Unselect the SSL option for the outgoing (SMTP) server.

That changed nothing, but this message........The connection to the server
has failed. Subject 'test1', Account: 'suppersdirect.com', Server:
'suppersdirect.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:
10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I believe it's ATT.........back to that idiot thing,..... although I do
remember seeing something in McAfee or somewhere, giving me an option, so if
you can walk me through it that would be great!

Again, it looks like the server name is incorrect...
'suppersdirect.com' looks to be incomplete.
A server name is usually something like
'smtp.suppersdirect.com' or 'mail.suppersdirect.com'

Your settings are correct now, but it looks like you are running into a
port 25 block, see
http://www.postcastserver.com/help/Port_25_Blocking.aspx

If you are sending from home, you need to substitute the SMTP server
belonging to your home ISP. If you need help with that, let me know who
your home ISP is.

I give in, this guy is selling take-away meals, and thinks that he rules the
world?

At last, he mentions "I believe it's ATT".

All yours guys.

In this case, it is fine. Suppersdirect.com is not a mail provider, it is
a vanity domain, and hosted domains like that often allow domain.com,
mail.domain.com and smtp.domain.com to be used interchangeably.

I'm not sure what your reference to an option in McAfee pertains to.
McAfee should not be allowed to interfere with your email in any way, shape, or form.

AT&T has three major divisions: former SBC, former Bellsouth, and WorldNet.
Do you know which division you are with? Do you have an email address through
AT&T? If so, what is the part after the @ symbol?

I believe it's SBC.

Gary, my personal email ends with @yahoo.com, our bill is ATT/SBC.
if I understand you correctly, I need to change port # from 25
to.......something else? But what? You are the only one I've chatted with
that has been any help at all. There are some guys that think I want to rule
the world.......I just want to be able to use my system for its intended
purpose. This frustrates me to no end.

If it's SBC, you can use the send settings given here:
http://helpme.att.net/article.php?item=10707

Either set up a separate account in Windows Mail for AT&T (SBC), or
else substitute their send settings for your current send settings in
your existing suppersdirect account. If you need more help with that,
let me know. In order to use this approach, you need to know your
AT&T username and password.

G

Gary VanderMolen

If your email address ends with @yahoo.com, it is not likely that it is associated
with your AT&T/SBC service. Did you have that same email address prior to
getting the AT&T/SBC service? The free @yahoo.com email accounts don't
have POP access, so no POP/SMTP mail servers. You will need to call AT&T
tech support to find out what your AT&T email address, username and password
are. Once you know that information, we can get you set up on an AT&T SMTP
server that uses a port other than 25.

G

Gary VanderMolen

Well, we need to get you a working email account that uses a port other
than 25 for SMTP. Once you have that set up and working properly,
we can take the next step by utilizing that proven SMTP server in your
suppersdirect.com account.

G

Gary, thanks so much for your help, I got with ATT and they finished it up
for me.....but I couldn't have got that far without you. Now, after sending
out emails all day WM has started askingfor the respective user name and
password for each account. What now?

G

Gary VanderMolen

If you are sure you are you are entering the correct username and
password, one possible cause for that error is account corruption.
One thing you should try as a quick fix is to delete that corrupted
mail account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate that account.

If that doesn't fix it, more drastic measures will have to be taken.
Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

If turning off the email scanning function does not resolve your problem,
consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to
suffering bad effects from overly aggressive antivirus programs.
http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm
