Windows Mail keeps restarting

I am still having the problem opening attachments. Sometimes they will open
properly and sometimes it closes the Windows Mail program, or restarts on
it's own. I have tried the suggestion of turning off the security program's
email scanning feature, both incoming and outgoing. This has changed
nothing. Still new emails containing attachments cause a reboot of the
Windows Mail program. I think there is something more wrong with the Vista
email program now, as for almost 2 years it has worked perfectly until
October 8th, 2008, using the same security program. I have installed the
Vista SP1 about 2 weeks ago with no problems until now. The only update
that ran previously to this problem showing up, was a Windows Defender
update on 10/07/08. After looking at the Event Logs, there seems to have
been something that happened on the morning of 10/08/08 that had an effect
on the Windows Mail program, and I probably need expert help in sorting out
this. How do I go about getting this type of help, or showing these
messages concerning the mail program that might explain the cause, and
possibly a cure. Can the Windows Mail program be uninstalled and
reinstalled?

Which antivirus program? Some (like Trend Micro) initially
start out being compatible with Windows Mail, but an update
to the antivirus program causes it to become non-compatible.

I think you are right about something happening around Oct 8th because the
same thing happened to me. My computer isn't 30 days old and had been working
okay until this week and yesterday the 9th it started doing like you
described. I worked with Dell techs all day and they couldn't correct it. I
think the problem is with the operating system vista (ME ll ) .
