Windows Mail doesn't recognize .dbx files

I followed all the instructions I've been able to find on importing old
emails from OE6 .dbx files. I have all of the .dbx files in a folder,
including the folders.dbx file. I can't seem to do anything to get Windows
Mail to even see that they are in the folder, even when I'm in explorer
browsing for the files through windows mail importing wizard, the .dbx files
don't show up, even though I know I'm in the right folder. I don't know if
it's a compatability issue between Vista and XP Pro, but I've seen a few
other posts with this problem and I haven't seen a solution yet. Thank you
in advance. :)

If you try to merge imported mail into a Windows Mail local folder
the threading of files copied from the Import folder seems to fail.
You can see all messages if you do not select View by Conversation.
Select View by Conversation and some messages are not visible. The
first message in the thread and any follow up messages from the same
person are visible in the thread but replies from others disappear.
Any comment?

BTW I only conducted a small test but it seemed to rule out a
problem with importing messages. Threading of messages left in the
Import folder works as it should do.

I am also wondering whether this problem might arise because
threading of dbx files is being done in a "hostile" environment. I
am also wondering whether trying to thread messages from OE6 and
Windows Mail may cause their own problems? Please note the examples
in the first paragraph involved only messages from OE6.

For others my research suggests that imported messages come to no
harm if left in the original import folder. The problems arise if
you move or copy to other local folders.

1) Created a folder under Documents called it OEMmail
2) Moved all the .dbx folders into the OEMmail folder (all 403MB worth) ,
they all made it
3) Checked to make sure they were not read only
4) Went into Windows Mail, selected import
5) Used the browser to select the folder and.........
Nothing showed up? It was like the dbx files were not there...
Where did I go wrong? I thought Vista made things easy?

I don't know. I don't thread messages in local folders and haven't tested
such.

Pity. I thought you were one of the few people outside Microsoft who
might understand the issue.
