Windows Mail blocked by Windows security?

Mattias

I have experienced the same problem as several others in this forum but could
still need some help in this issue:

Have been using Windows Mail and Norton since 2007 without any problems. The
past week some updates were installed (Microsoft and probably also some new
data for Norton) Since then my wife can not log on to her mail using the old
account. A "Windows security"-window appears asking her to confirm her
Username and Password but the entries (correct) are not accepted. Yesterday I
deleted the whole content of the Appdata\Local\Low\Microsoft\Windows mail
catalogue and created a new account in Windows Mail. I succeded to log in
once, but then the problem reappeared and could not be solved in the same
way. (Saving the password in Windows Mail does not work either) I also tried
to turn of the e-mail scanning in Norton without result. Still the scanning
has worked for 2 years without problems so I do not understand how it
suddenly can cause this interference? Equally curious since my own
mail-account has not been affected.
Would really appreciate if anyone has infomration that could helo me solve
this problem!

Thanks / Mattias

Its very hard to diagnose issues caused by 3rd party programs. Norton for
years has been a culprit in generating issues for some and not for others in
OE and Winmail (see point 3 here: www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3). You can
try compacting and repairing the database and maybe it will have a positive
impact (www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/), but it may not. You might also consider
whatever other (antispam, antimalware, antiwindows) software is also running
at the same time.

Norton security products are among the top three troublemakers for
Windows Mail. Symptoms often don't surface until several months have
gone by, or until an update occurs.
First, be sure to disable its email scanning, for the reason explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

However, disabling the Norton program is often insufficient. If so, do a trial
uninstall, followed by using their debris removal tool:

Instead of uninstalling your antivirus, another option is to upgrade to
Windows Live Mail, which is more resistant to the adverse effects of overly
intrusive antivirus products: http://download.live.com/wlmail
