Windows Mail and gaming problems

I'm having a few problems with Vista and am starting to tear my hair out, so
was wondering if someone can shed some light for me please?

The first problem I'm having is every time I open Windows Mail it asks me
for my username and password. I input them and click ok and then it asks me
again and again and again....
So I've deleted my email account and added it back again and it lets me
download my emails - until the next time I go into Mail. It's getting very
annoying now as it's been happening for about a week now. When I've got fed
up going round in circles I click on cancel and then it gives me a couple of
different error messages, usually

Account: 'pop.wanadoo.co.uk', server: 'pop.wanadoo.co.uk', Protocol: pop3,
server response:'-ERR[IN-USE] Unable to lock maildrop', Port: 110,
Secure(SSL): No, Server error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92.

or the same message but the Server Response is 'Disconnect because
authentication is too long', with same error numbers.

I've stopped Norton from scanning incoming/outgoing emails permanently as I
have been advised by my ISP and now they've drawn a blank.

My second problem has started this evening. I usually use 3 different sites
for playing games online ( MSN, Pogo and Popcap). But each time I try to
play a game, it starts downloading and then gets 'stuck' and goes no
further. I've removed the Java whatsit, rebooted and reinstalled it but am
still getting nowhere fast. The strange thing is when I download a demo
version of a game, I can play it but not the online version.

Any ideas anyone???

TIA

Have you tried to use another mail program like Thunderbird to see if
it's Windows Mail or not? www.mozilla.com/thunderbird You might also
want to consider uninstalling Norton completely (go to their web site to
get the removal tool) and use Avast or AVG instead (free).

The two problems may be related in a general problem with your Internet
connection.

You could try looking at the properties of your connection via Network and
Sharing Center > Manage Network Connections eg unchecking ipv6 for the
connection via properties. You could also try re-setting up the connection.

Also check hardware connections for your modem etc

Netty,

Quote: Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude
EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
should be uninstalled.

And from Franks post I believe this is indeed your problem.
I'd also take the advice from Alias about uninstalling Norton.
