Windows freezes up if i have another hard drive attached.

Windows boots up to the desktop and hangs as it starts to load startup
programs like messenger.

This happened before so i did the same thing to get windows to work.
I removed my extra harddrive and windows now starts up fine.
so now i need to figure out why my computer runs fine untell out of
nowhere the next time i start my computer, it doesn't like my extra
drive.

well, now it works ... this has happened before, i had to
format/install windows when it did a month ago.
it happened with my older 60GB drive. now i just have my 160gb and
240gb installed.

well what i just did was uninstall HP boot optimiser ... just because i
no longer trust compaq/HP with anything that optimizes my harddrive.
but i dont think that was it ...well at least it works now.
time to find some software, any recomations for programs that
scan/repair hard drives? files, MBRs, and anything? also i'm thinking
of testing my RAM, any programs i should avoid?
well time to stay up all night doing testing and mainence.
