I saw the problem in the knowledge base #831938 and was
disappointed that it is not exactly like my problem.
When I go into Windows Explorer it will just shutdown,
clear the desktop screen and then redisplay my icons on
the desktop. NO error message of any kind. It will even
do this in the middle of a copy and I have to go back in
several times to finish. It is getting to be a pain.

Can ANYONE help me? P L E A S E !!!

Thanks,

Alan

bad news. reinstall. due to many updates to ie as singles
the windows explorer can become corrupted to the point of
crashing and refreshing the screen icons.combined service
paks seem to not do this corruption. and then tweek your
programs when they go back in as to not take away from
windows programs such as in quicktime ,uncheck using
"tiff" or crash .

Are you by any chance running the ReplayTV Photo Transfer software? So far I've rebuilt 2 machines, one of them twice, because of Windows Explorer doing what you describe. One of them I didn't put this software on, and it has never reexhibited the problem. The other, I put the software on both times and the problem started happening within a couple of hours. Yesterday it dawned on me it could be this software, so I removed it. So far so good.

Good luck!

Thanks, I was afraid of the reinstall. Just hoped it
wouldn't come to that.
