Windows Explorer - Open with 'My Documents' Collapsed

R

RIP

Right now Windows Explorer opens with My Documents selected and already
expanded (the little box to the left of "My Documents" is a "-", the
folders within are showing in the left pane and the folders and files
within are showing in the right pane).

I'm fine with having My Documents as the default selection, however I
would like to have Windows Explorer open with My Documents selected but
NOT expanded (with the box to the left of "My Documents" showing a
"+").

In other words, I'm fine with having the files and folders within My
Documents showing in the right pane, but I don't want the folders
within/beneath My Documents showing in the left pane. This is because
I've accumulated quite a few folders in My Documents and the way
Windows Explorer opens now I have to collapse My Documents and scroll
down before being able to select items below My Documents in the left
pane.

Any help would be much appreciated!

In RIP had this to say:

If you're opening it with a shortcut then:

I scratched my head trying to remember the way to change the default - as in
when you'd open it with the keyboard - but I can't recall oddly enough.

Explorer usually opens to the folder you were in when you accessed
Explorer. Create this shortcut, or edit the one you now use:

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n,/e,C:\

That should open Explorer with no folder expanded. Then add a shortcut
key combination so you can access it easily.
