Explorer Tree is Growing

I use Windows Explorer frequently at work and generally have an Explorer
window open all day. After setting up a new PC with XP SP2 I'm having a
problem with the tree in the left pane showing multiple sections of My
Documents and the folders below it (My Music, My Notebook, My Pictures,
etc...).

What happens is that when I press F5 to refresh the right pane (usually
while looking at some network folder), the refresh works, but the left pane
gains one or more (usually more) additional sets of the My Documents folders.
After a few refreshes I can have fifty or a hundred sets of My Documents
folders showing in the left pane. Also, there are some icons of a type that
I'm not familiar with, and with no name beside them, in between each set of
My Documents folders.

This behavior does not occur initially after Windows Explorer is opened, but
begins some amount of time later, or possibly after I perform some particular
action, though I haven't been able to find anything that will cause this
behavior to start. Closing Explorer and reopening it sets everything back to
normal, and I usually have to do this about twice per day.

This is annoying. Anyone have an idea how to fix this?

Thanks.

To repair all system files, go to Start/Run, and type (or paste in): SFC /SCANNOW
