Windows XP Pro Version 5.1 SP3. In Windows Explorer when I click on "Folders"
on the Standard Buttons Tool Bar the left pane (navigation pane) opens but it
is blank. How do I get the folder tree to show?

I don`t use it , but , view , tree ?

Elmo, Thanks for the suggestion. However, I didn't find a fix there. The
closest that the cite came was, "Folder Views - Change Window To Double-Paned
View.
Want to switch a folder window from single to a double-paned view (as if you
opened the folder inside Windows Explorer)? All it takes is one click.
Open any folder window and look for the Folders icon on the Standard Buttons
toolbar. Click it once to jump to a double-paned window. Click it again, and
you're back to a single pane."

Tha's not the problem. The problem is that when I switch to the double pain
window, it is blank; there is no folder tree as there used to be.

Did I miss something at Kelly's fixes? I looked at all Folder Views, I think.

No, I thought that was the fix. Try these, though they're a long shot:

Several dialog boxes are blank:

Transparent drop-down Menu and disappearing menu text -

Elmo,
You were right, they were long shots but I'm desparate. so I checked them
out. They didn't address Windows Explorer.
Thanks anyway.

Here's a post by "Mart" that I found on the problem:

'"All Folders" Pane Missing or Windows Explorer Is Blank
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q192315
or try
"Description of the Internet Explorer Repair Tool"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;194177
and run "Repair" on Internet Explorer.

Repairing IE will almost always fix this Explorer.exe problem.

Here's a search result with many more suggestions:
http://groups.google.com/groups/search?q=explorer+folders+view+blank&qt_s=Search+Groups

One thread offered some registry fixes for IE, which is an integral part
of the Explorer interface. Though it mentions W2000, any of the .dll's
will either register, or give an error message. Since you should have
only the needed versions of a particular file on your system, you should
be able to attempt to register all mentioned files:

http://help.lockergnome.com/windows2/Explorer-Folder-List-blank--ftopict205636.html

Perhaps this search will narrow the parameters better:

"All Folders" pane missing or Windows Explorer is blank
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/192315

Delete the "ExplorerBar" value, then restart your computer.
Copy and paste the following line into the Run box:

(one line! no word-wrap!)
reg delete "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" /v ExplorerBar /f
