Windows Explorer has encountered a problem....

Guest

I keep getting the infamous "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and
needs to close" box. When I click on details, I get the following
information:

AppName: explorer.exe
AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180
ModName: msvbvm60.dll
ModVer: 6.0.96.90
Offset: 000ef6bd

I have been getting this several times per day for the last several days.
Any help out there?
thanks

msvbvm60.dll is a module for the Microsoft Visual Basic virtual machine.

When or how does this happen?

Error message "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" when you right-click a folder.

Right-click is slow or weird behavior caused by context menu handlers
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/slowrightclick.htm

Right-click is extremely slow only when Network is enabled
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/rcdelay.htm

Right click causes an error and crashes Explorer.exe after installing
Windows XP SP2

Wesley,
Thanks for your response, but none of those problems are happening to my
computer. The problem does NOT occur when I right-click, it just happens
seemingly out of nowhere. There might be a certain action that causes the
problem, but it is not caused by right-clicking.
any other ideas?
Thanks

Hi Bob,
First be sure your computer is clean from Viruses and malwares and Run Disk
Cleaup and Defrag.
Then download this shelxview and run it and it will show all the handlers in
the registry, you could have an Anti-virus that making this error to occur.
simply for bad programming or the handler broken for somehow causing the
error to produce itself.
Runing the system file checker can repair thing sometimes.

You need to post a complete copy of the Error Report as it appears in
Event Viewer.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event Viewer.
Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the
message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Nice to see not just me having this problem.
Running XP Profesional, latest updates, no spyware (Bitdefender, Windows
Firewall, Spybot), no viruses, nothing. Just the same old problem.
Seeing as it's 2007 and windows XP still does not work I have a choice.
Reformat my machine or upgrade to Vista and spend the nesxt 5 years trying to
get it to work.
I've had enough, I'm getting and getting Mac. There are only 3 programs I
need on windows anyway so I may as well install windows on the mac and run
those programmes.
Oh and if you want to read the error report before I get it printed on a
t-shirt saying this is windows read below
