pdf download errors

When trying to download a pdf file from a website I get an explorer error -

explorer has encountered a problem an needs to close

error report contains this:
AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: msvcr71.dll
ModVer: 7.10.3052.4 Offset: 000017fb

any ideas?

I've also run into this as well after installing some Microsoft
updates. If I disable the PDF plugin from inside Adobe Reader it works
just fine. I've tried a detect and repair after renaming acropfd.dll
...same thing. maybe a reinstall? Still working on solving the issue....
