Windows doesn't recognize existing files on drive

After a recent reinstall of XP it doesn't show my second
hard drive as having any files. When I click on the icon
to open it, it says that it needs to be formatted.
However, when I look at the same drive in linux (dual
boot system) all my files are there. How can I have XP
recognize the drive as having data present and without
having to format the drive?

I know that. What windows isn't recognizing is an NTFS
partition on the second drive. I can see the NTFS
partition from linux but not from windows.
