'Windows did not start successfully'

S

Stevie Mono

I've just returned from a weeks holiday, switched PC on and hit problems -
hope someone can help?

Running Windows XP Home edition with SP2, but struggling to get the
operating system loaded!

I first got a 'No signal input to monitor' displayed and have seen this
before so done same as preiously and disconnected/reconnected monitor
connector from PC, then rebooted.

'Windows did not start properly' screen came up but I have struggled to
continue beyond here....the timer does it's countdown to 0 then does nothing,
or if I make a selection and press 'return' or 'enter', the screen freezes
with the timer stopping on whatever number of seconds it reached!!

If I select Safe mode all the drivers appear to get loaded but then stops at
Mup.sys

If I select 'Last known config' screen goes blank and nothing.

If I select 'Start Windows normally' nothing happens.

Can you help
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have now taken 2 steps forward and 1 back!!

I found the Windows installation disc and inserted into a drive. However,
sometimes a re-boot appears to fail part-way thro' the BIOS load and just
stop.

If the BIOS does complete, the Windows drivers get loaded, then Windows
Set-up says it is starting Windows, but nothing happens??
