windows did not start successfully.

Hi,
My Fiance's PC will not boot up
windows.
He has Windows XP Pro with SP2 installed....( it was built for him by a
friend, no longer living near by) and it is called a SIS..I believe? and the
floppies I created for boot up has the slipstreaming with SP2 to enable boot
up...but ? Ok..here we go....
It starts out like normal...When the thing gets going, you see the initial
Boot up page...where it gives you the option to hit the DEL button to go to
set up or just let it boot....then goes to a black page that says something
to the effect: SATA ...something or other Not verified, etc...and
Then he gets a Black page with white writing
that says,
"We apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not
start successfully. A recent hardware or software change
may have caused this.
If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectly
or was automatically shut down to protect files and
folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration to revert to
the most recent settings that worked.
If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to power
failure or because the power or reset button was pressed,
or if you aren't sure what caused this problem, choose
Start Windows Normally.
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration
Start Windows Normally"

Now, sometimes it will allow me to scroll to choose one of the selections,
and sometimes it's frozen and won't do flip.
But, even when it does allow, it freezes there and will not allow Boot in
Safe Mode, Last Known Good Config, Normal start...nothing...
When the first initial boot up page appears it says to hit DEL to select the
Set up menu....
I do...then it will take me to the menu, but no matter what I
select...NOTHING changes. I click on Save and Exit and it reutrns and starts
the same proceedure all over. An endless, frustrating repitition...
I am UNABLE to boot from the CD or the (6) Floppy I created for boot
up...and also am UNABLE to reach a place that'll allow me to rpair /
restore...
In other words, the floppy's and CD are of no use to try and partition /
repair, etc....PLEASE HELP?
He just paid nearly $1,400.00 having this dag gum machine built and now it
will not even start up, ....
Unless I have step by Step instructions, I have NO IDEA what to do to
correct or check anything in the BIOS...
Can someone help?
Thank you...
Vicki

Do you have a valid WinXP CD? If not, there's nothing much to do. If
yes, you can try a Repair Install or use the Recovery Console to do a
Fixboot or Fix MBR. Since SATA Drive is indicated he could have a corrupt
SATA Driver.
In the Bios you can check that the Entries for SATA Drive are enabled.
Best thing to do is to call the guy who built it
and ask him for advice.

I agree... call whoever built the PC and ask specifically for the original
WinXP media.

Yet another example of why ad hoc PCs built by "a guy I know" aren't such a
great idea! Even the best true IT guys will tell you... buy a Dell or
notably manufactured PC. Warrently, valid windows license, compatible
compents... All things that matter in the long run!

:)
