Windows did not start successfully

I receive the following message when I try to start Windows XP:

"We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start
successfully.
A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.
If you computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was
automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last
Known
Good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked.
If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure
or
because the Power or Reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure
what
caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally.
(these are the choices:)
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration
Start Windows Normally"

I can move the highlight up and down, but the minute I press enter on
any of the options nothing happens the screen just stays right where
it is, and if I let the countdown go to 0 nothing happens either.

Anyone have any suggestions???

Hi,

It's hard to determine reason and solution - you didnt write if you
installed something before or maybe changed any hardware or reconfigre
somthing.

Try to put Windows XP CD into CD-Rom and boot from it. Repair your
instalation (NOT on screen with recovery console, but on next screen).

If something happened with keyboard installer should detect it.
