windows did not start successfully

I'm running XP SP1. When the PC starts it goes to the error message
"windows did not start successfully" and then give three options - safe

mode x3, Last known config or start windows normally. Trouble is that
whichever I choose I get back to the same error message. How can I
break the cycle and restart my pc in safe mode or use system restore?

Would appreciate any help

Hi

Can you get into Safe Mode to try a System Restore? If not, and none of the
other options allow you access to Windows, you will have to try a 'Repair'
install of XP. Please have a look at the following article by Michael
Stevens:

"How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install"
