Windows start up error

Having recently reformatted my HDD and reinstalled win XP & SP2, every time i
restart my PC i get 'windows did not start successfully' error and the usual
options(safe mode, safe mode with prompt, last known good config etc.). I
select start normally and the Pc boots, no problems. Any clues anyone?
