'Windows did not start successfully'

I've just returned from a weeks holiday, switched PC on and hit problems -
hope someone can help?

Running Windows XP Home edition with SP2, but struggling to get the
operating system loaded!

I first got a 'No signal input to monitor' displayed and have seen this
before so done same as preiously and disconnected/reconnected monitor
connector from PC, then rebooted.

'Windows did not start properly' screen came up but I have yet to continue
beyond here....the timer does it's countdown to 0 then does nothing, or if I
make a selection and press 'return' or 'enter', the screen freezes with the
timer stopping on whatever number of seconds it reached!!

If I select Safe mode all the drivers appear to get loaded but then stops at
Mup.sys

If I select 'Last known config' screen goes blank and nothing.

If I select 'Start Windows normally' nothing happens.

It sounds as though some hardware has failed. An easy way to check if
hardware is the issue is by booting with a Linux live CD such as
Knoppix. Live CDs run only from the CD and make no changes to your hard
drive. If the computer exhibits the same problems with Knoppix, then you
know for sure it's hardware.

To get Knoppix, you need a computer with a fast Internet connection and
third-party burning software. Download the Knoppix .iso and create your
bootable cd. You may need to change the boot priority in the BIOS.

It might be something as simple as a failing power supply or video card.

I have now taken 2 steps forward and 1 back!!

I found the Windows installation disc and inserted into a drive. However,
sometimes a re-boot appears to fail part-way thro' the BIOS load and just
stop.

If the BIOS does complete, the Windows drivers get loaded, then Windows
Set-up says it is starting Windows, but nothing happens??

Think you posted this enough times?!! ;-)

You have hardware failure. See my answer to your very first post.
Messing about with Windows (software) will do you no good whatsoever.
You need to find out which hardware component is failing and replace it.
