Hi

Windows Defender suddenly stopped working on my Vista Ultimate.

It comes back with an error message 0x80240029 and refers to MS site,
but, honestly, I just cannot understand what to do ?

If someone can please help me, or just tell me how to uninstall Defender
it will be a great help. Thanks.

Go to the posting below yours that shows windows defender 10 posts dated
5-13-07 and follow what TaurArian [MS-MVP] suggests. You will go into safe
mode and change the Software Distribution Folder and it will then allow you
to update Windows Defender. Apparently some of us have corrupt Software
Distribution Folders (and mine is a new computer 1 1/2 weeks old) so anyone
can have this corrupt folder. I followed this persons suggestion to change
the folder to "old" at the end by renaming mine and I am up and running with
ALL definitions updated. It works....promise. I am so thankful I kept reading
this post. Good luck.
