When I boot my computer (Windows XP, SP2) I get an error message that windows
defender did not initialize: error code 0x800106ba. It suggests restarting
my computer (does no good) or searching Help and Support for how to start
manually (no luck). Im on the verge of dumping the program. Any help,
please.

Enter 0x800106ba in the "Search For" box in the discussion group and you
will find many threads discussing a similar problem.
