Windows Defender Can't Open Up

Unable to open Windows Defender. Get the following when I try to do so:

Windows Defender is turned off

I click on "Turn on and open Windows Defender" and get the following:

Windows Defender encountered an error: 0x800106ba. A problem caused this
program's service to stop. To start the service, restart your computer or
search Help and Support for how to start a service manually"

Rebooting didn't help and trying to start the service did not help either.
Any suggestions? Thanks!
 
What version of Windows?

What other anti-malware software is running?

Was that anti-malware software upgraded or changed recently?
 
i HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND HAVE TRIED THE OPTIONS IN HELP AND SUPPORT WITH
NO LUCK

if you are using Microsoft Security Essentials or AVG for antivirus it will
turn off WD
in MSE it is incorporated in it and that is why it turns it off
in AVG there is a conflict between WD and AVG and that is why it is off
