Windows Backup Utility will not "work fully" in XP Home?!?!?

All information on this computer - This option will create an Automated
System Recovery disk that will help to restore your operating system in the
event of a complete system crash. However, this option will only work fully
for those who use Windows XP Professional Edition, even though you will be
able to go through the motions of creating this within the Home Edition.

I have two questions:

1) I have XP Home. So can I count on Backup to restore my system in the
event that I need to reformat the disk?
Yes or no?

2) Q: What company makes software that will not "work fully" but will only
"go through the motions."

2) I am convinced that XP Home was created by removing stuff from XP Pro,
but not everything that should have been removed was removed.

There are other things in Home that can mess you up also because of this.

Creating a Power User from control userpaswords2 for one. And Local Users
and Groups will popup an error in XP Home for another.

NOTE: ASR does not function and is not supported on Windows XP Home edition.

The ASR Wizard may create the floppy disks and a backup file (Backup.bkf).
The floppy disks, however, cannot start the ASR process in Windows XP Home
Edition if they are used after a catastrophic system failure.
Wow.
Microsoft sure does make things simple.

I have a BS in computer engineering, and I am scared of using their software.
Imagine how ordinary users must feel when they come here and try to decipher
this mess...

On one hand it is nice to have one model with full functionality to avoid
this mess; on the hand, in Europe, Microsoft was accused of bundling too
many features to reduce competition!

Go figure.

You also have to consider that Microsoft does listen to consumers when
designing new operating systems. I want this and he wants that and she
wants that other thing. Everybody wants something different. I don't know
how MS decides what gets included but many don't get what they would
consider the perfect OS. And the EU wanted something else.

MS had to remove Windows Media Player from Windows XP to satisfy the EU. I
happen to use WMP, go figure. I also use Internet Explorer and Outlook
Express.

Maybe MS needs to set Windows up like a Chinese restaurant menu, one from
column A and two from column B...
