May I backup to dvd+r five gigabyhtes? When I select drive D, there is an
error message that the path is wrong. billgaines

If by "windows backup program" you mean NTBackup, I don't believe it
will back up directly to a CD/DVD-R. You need to get a modern backup
program instead. Acronis True Image is good and has the ability to image
and do incremental backups. There are also backup-only programs (no
imaging) like Second Copy that allow you to do this.

No, ntbackup will not perform this task.
First of all, XP does not support writing to a DVD. You need third party
programs for this.
Second, ntbackup cannot split backup files across disks.
Hence, even if XP supported writing to a DVD, you would need to use double
sided media.
