Windows 2000 to XP Professional

I just purchased XP Professional, wanting to upgrade my old Win 2000 OS.
When the XP box arrived, I found that it says, "For PCs with Windows 95 or
earlier, or PCs without Windows," on the front. Is there some way to install
XP Professional, on my PC? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You can install it, yes. But the question is whether this supports an
*upgrade* install. If it does, it's going to say "UPGRADE " on the disk
label, and there will be mention that you have to have a pre-installed OS
or qualifying media.

The labelling you mention indicates a full-retail or OEM version, not an
upgrade. Those, in particular OEM's, do not support upgrade installs.

That labeling, "For PCs with Windows 95 or earlier, or PCs without
Windows," indicates that you've purchased a retail "Full" license,
rather than the less expensive Upgrade license. The "Full" installation
CD can still be used to perform an in-place upgrade, if you like.
Simply boot into Win2K, insert the CD, and follow the on-screen prompts
and instructions.

It will perform an in-place upgrade. That labeling is from a Full
Retail License.

That's what an Upgrade box would say, true. But the OP can still
perform an upgrade using the full license.

The labelling you mention indicates a full-retail ...
Correct.

... or OEM version,

No, I don't think so. OEM CDs do not normally come in boxes, and are
marked: "For distribution with a new PC only. For product support,
contact the manufacturer of your PC."

.... not an
upgrade. Those, in particular OEM's, do not support upgrade installs.

Correct again.
