Home vs. Professional

I have two PCs at home, one with Windows XP Professional, one with Home
Edition. XP Professional has a "Network ID" button, off the Computer Name
tab within Control Panel.

How do I gain access to files stored on XP Professional, from my PC with XP
Home edition? Right now, I can gain access to files stored on XP Home using
my XP Professional PC, but not the other way around (prompted for a
password)

What is the "Network ID" button used for?

If you put in the local username/password for the Windows XP Professional
machine when prompted to do so on the Windows XP Home machine - what
happens?

The XP Home edition computer, first of all, had some registry changes done
to it a while ago. I posted onto technet about this. Right not, my XP Home
edition computer starts up with the older style login. I'm asked for user
name / password via "OK | Cancel" dialog window. Something changed my
registry I think, probably from uninstall & re-install of some software
pakage. The Windows XP Professional computer still has the "User Icons" type
XP click-to-log on method. Do you know what I mean?

Both computers have identical credentials; I logon to both using:

Make sure "Simple file sharing" is disabled in your folder options (you can
find it easily from the control panel in classic mode) on both machines.
It's at the very bottom under view options.

Having it turned on is not a recommended configuration, because it makes
Windows skip a few security checks here and there. And in simple mode user
rights assignment on shared folders don't work properly.

And you can change the way you log on (with the icons or classic mode)
through the Local Security Policy under Administrative Tools in the Control
Panel. You don't have to edit the registry to get to it. It's one of the
few things that are actually changeable from the control panel. As well as
turning the Ctrl+Alt+Del off if you want to. And a bunch of other options
that can make your life either easier or harder.
