Windows 2000 setup - is this possible.

Osiris

I am trying to setup internet access on an existing Client Server
network.

My partner's network is a Microsoft Small Business Server 2000 where
he runs a MS SQL server for his database. It consists of a server and
8 clients (6 windows 2000 PCs, One WinXP PC, and one WinXP TabletPC).
All the Windows 2000 PCs are part of the domain YMSDM1.
There is no internet access from/to the windows 2000 PCs. The Windows
XP box has ethernet access through a wireless G Linksys router WRV54G
(which has room for 4 wired connections). The TabletPC has wireless
internet access through the Linksys router. What I would like to do
is bring Internet Access and networking access to 3 of the windows
2000 machines.

PLAN:-- My plan was to put an extra ethernet card in each of the
Windows 2000 machines and connect them via Ethernet Cable to the
Linksys router.

There is dialup access to the server but no outgoing connections. The
server is "LOCKED DOWN" so hard with ISA that I cant even fathom how
to get internet access to the server. I dont really want Internet
Access to this server as it hold my partners MS SQL data on it and I
dont want the server to be accessible to the internet for security
purposes.

Does this seem feasible ? Will I have to change the Subnet
Mask/Default Gateway/DHCP server information. Will the Windows 2000
SBS networking be affected ? I have done it to one PC so far and it
seems to work sometimes and other times Internet Access stops or
Networking stops.

All help appreciated !!!

You will want your internetconnection run through the SBS server. Put in 2
nics, attach your router to the 2nd nic and run the ICW-wizard.

Any other possibilities ? I dont want to open the server to the
internet. Too many potential problems. Not to mention it is so
locked down with ISA settings it will take me years to learn/configure
ISA Server 2000. Either that or I will have an insecure network.

Although, I just looked around .. check this out ...

Wow a whole site dedicated to configuring ISA server.

I was hoping to use this router and give only certain PC access to the
internet. Doesnt look like it is possible. Oh well.

SBS is designed to do this and Isa will protect you. No need to get into
ISA. SBS is a different animal, so not all articles on the isaserver.org
site are suitable for SBS.
