Win2KServer and NT 4.0 Server

We recently installed a new server (Win2Kserver) and it
was set-up as a DC. However, we already have two NT 4.0
servers running as PDC and SDC under a domain. The Win2K
machine was set-up under the existing domain. All users
can see the new server and are using applications and
storagae on the new server, but users are having issues
with saving files on the new server. All users have been
set-up with the same user names/passwords on the new
server.
I suspect we actually have 2 domains now?? What is the
best way to resolve this issue w/o completely starting
over?
I have tried building trust relationships, but it is a bit
convuluded since they are running under the same domain
name. I have checked file permissions, etc.

Help!

Yes you have 2 domains now.

If you run dcpromo on the Win 2k server to remove AD, you can then add it to
your NT 4.0 domain as a member server.

You are probably correct in that you have two domains. How many
servers do you have altogether? I think that you are faced with a
migration of services one by one to the new Win2000 Domain. We need a
lot more information to help you, and you need to keep your backups as
current as possible.

We have 3 servers all together. Today I added the NT 4
server names and IP's to the host file and to the Wins
directory for DNS resolution on the Win2K server. I have
been getting netlogon errors. I don't know what else to
do.
The main problem we are having is that when a user on the
network opens a file on the Win2K server, makes changes to
the file and tries to save it sometimes the files saves
and other times it says that "Save not complete. File
rename failed. Retry?" When one clicks cancel the
following message appears, "Changes could not be saved,
but were saved to a temp document named xxxx."

Hmm, how is your DNS setup?

As regards the "sometimes can save and sometimes cannot" is it
possible to see a pattern? eg can a certain person always save into a
particular directory, but another can't? I'm thinking that to rename a
file the person needs write permissions on the directory as well as
the file itself. Are you using NTFS?
